BTEC Level 2 Tech Award
What will I study?
This course is for learners who want to acquire sports specific knowledge and develop the skills to apply them practically. They will also explore the different types of participant and their needs in order to gain an understanding of how to increase participation for others in sport and further develop their knowledge and understanding of anatomy and physiology. Learners will undertake practical sessions to develop skills in planning and delivering sports activity sessions to participants.
How will I be assessed?
Component 1. Internal assessment– Coursework (30%)
Preparing participants to take part in sport and activity
Component 2. Internal assessment– Coursework (30%)
Taking part and improving others sporting performance
Component 3. External assessment– Coursework (40%)
Developing fitness to improve other participants performance in sport and physical activity
In BTEC Tech Award you will be assessed through external assignments based on scenario situations. These will be completed in a number of different forms ranging from written presentations, investigations, written reports, presentations and practical demonstrations.
Teaching and learning approaches
The course is theory based and will be taught mainly via classroom lessons with elements of practical investigations taking place throughout specific components.
Enrichment opportunities
The PE department offer a wide range of extra-curricular activities throughout the year. A programme of what is available is released every term. There are opportunities to use the Fitness Suite participate in games practices and compete for The Academy in a variety of sports including: hockey, football, rugby, netball, athletics and badminton.
Homework
A variety of homework tasks will be set from research to opportunities to embed learning from lessons. Completion of homework is an integral part of the course and will assist pupils in unlocking their full potential.
The Future
BTEC Tech Award in Sport lays an excellent foundation for further study of physical education related subjects. In addition, it provides a worthwhile course in terms of education and lifelong learning. BTEC Tech Award in Sport provides clear progression to post–16 studies, at GCE A- Level as well as access to degree and post degree qualifications.
