OCR H420 A Level
Is it your dream to become a medical research scientist? Maybe a marine biologist? Or perhaps a microbiologist? Then an A-Level in Biology can help you! Boost your knowledge in life and living organisms and gain a fascinating insight into evolution, gene expression and biological molecules.
The topics include cell structure; biological molecules; exchange and transport; biodiversity, evolution and disease; homeostasis and energy; genetics biology, evolution and ecosystems. Biology is a practical subject, and there are numerous opportunities for students to develop these skills.
Biology complements the study of Chemistry, Psychology and Geography, as well as Sports Science. Students who are considering a Science degree are advised to study two sciences, and maths.
Students should expect to complete 4 to 5 hours of independent study each week, in addition to lessons.
Entry Criteria: You will need to achieve at least grade 6-6 in your GCSE Combined Science, as well as grade 5s in English and Maths.
Assessment
The A Level is assessed in Year 13 through three written exams. Students will have to demonstrate their practical competencies across five skills to achieve the practical endorsement. This is reported separately by the exam board and, although essential, does not form part of the overall grade.
