Psychology
Course Information
Psychology is the science of human behaviour. It is about what drives us to be who we are and can throw up many interesting questions! How can identical twins behave so differently? Why do people choose to obey commands which they know are morally wrong? Why do rewards and punishments work? What are the implications for society if we know that someone’s biological makeup means they’re more likely to commit murder?
Psychology is a science A Level, and you will have to grapple with concepts and issues, theories and explanations, and learn research findings and how to interpret statistics. All topics include practical activity, although the overall emphasis is theoretical. Psychology involves a lot of extended response and suits students who like to explore an argument or debate.
The course covers topics such as obedience, prejudice, mental illness, child development, memory, learning, phobias, brain damage, eye-witness testimony and much more.
People who study psychology at degree level can work in a variety of careers including education, health, social work, PR, advertising, marketing and management. Psychology can also be counted as a science for accessing several health-related courses at university level.
