Over recent weeks, some of our students have been giving up their Saturdays to attend athletics events at Gateshead International Stadium. An initial 26 students attended an event in May at King Edward VI School in Morpeth, and from that group, 17 were selected to go on to represent the county and school. All the students who attended and were selected did incredibly well. Significant personal achievement was seen from Charlie-Joe in the discus, Joseph in the 800m and Abi in the 75m hurdles and the shot, who took one step further and qualified to the inter-county stage.
These students then went back to Gateshead International Stadium for an Inter-County Athletics Meet, where they represented Northumberland in competing against Cleveland, Cumbria, Durham and North Yorkshire, seeing the standard rise again. All the Berwick Academy students performed exceptionally well; with Charlie-Joe increasing his distance in the shot, Abi performing strongly in the hurdles and coming second in the final, and Joseph who won his race again.
We are proud of all our competing athletes, and hope their success has encouraged them to keep going and taking future opportunities to compete again.
